A Mega-Horn Spiral…Through this magical musical instrument we could sing to the forest AND listen carefully to what the branches were saying. They were demanding that we CEASE the DEVELOPMENT and DESTRUCTION of their community, of the organism of this forest on the rim of the Niagara Escarpment! The exhibition included new works by: Nicola Jane Whiting Thomas, Michael Belmore, Ernest Daetwyler, Dermot Wilson, Simon Frank, Quan Steele and Don Chretien.
Don Chretien’s “Beaver Skull” Installation spoke to the forest on a spiritual level. It marked the spot for the beginning of the end of the Castleglen Development Corporation’s plan to level the forest seen in the background.
Quan Steele created “Last Island” for Escarpment/Erasure, May 27-30, 2023. Is there something “Malthusian” about this work created with a found pyramidal shaped boulder and painted chicken bones?
